Wednesday Rant

Okay I had to talk about this today.

Everyday at 10:00 am I get a text message that is called "Weird News". It usually involves somebody botching an armed burglary or someone eating their weight in hot dogs. But today's message involved Britney Spears and her doggie. It seems that the pop sensation took her new pet poodle out to a lavish restaurant and bought fluffie a $180.00 steak dinner.

Ok Britney? No, its okay. Come a little closer. That's it. Gosh you smell nice. Listen, umm okay. You are an idiot. Listen to the facts. Not only did you buy a steak dinner for a dog; You paid 180.00 dollars for it. The only way I would ever pay 180.00 for a steak dinner would be if it was cooked to perfection and served with vegetables, a baked potato and served on $160.00.
But oh no. We didn't stop there did we Britney? We bought it for a 3 ounce mouse of a dog. I am sure that dog enjoyed it so much it proceeded to lick its private parts and washed it all down with a glass of the restaurants best toilet water.

You wouldn't believe me Britney. But I have a dog too. And not once has the insane idea ever crept into my mind to buy "Lucky" a steak dinner. I also find it hard to believe that your dog has becomed accustomed to such a lavish lifestyle that it would turn its head away from a little kibbles and bits. My dog roots around in the cat's litter box like its a box of cracker jacks so I don't think a steak would bring him to another echelon of sophistication.

Point is this. Stardom has made you stupid. From chartered jets traveling cross country for your favorite mocha latte to happy hour for sparky at club sheik, It amazes me you remember how to inhale and blink.

Move over South Park

My new favorite show!
Drawn Together

If you haven't seen this show yet you need to. IT's on after South Park wednesday nights at 9:30 CST. It basically takes all the reality tv shows and puts it one animated show. It is absolutely hillarious and dares to push the boundaries even further than South Park did.

Check it out.

When a meal isn't a meal...

... When you are eating with Don and Darlene. Something about a meal over there that tends to stray from the whole "I am hungry, let's eat something" routine. An evening at Don's is not dinner and conversation, it is more like a culinary marathon. The man amazes me with his kitchen talents. Don and Darlene are throwing Tonya and I an "Engagement Dinner extravaganza" this weekend and it should be an amazing event. I have attended a few of Don's dinners, and to sum it up in a few words to those of you whom haven't attended, it is absolutely amazing. It usually involves at least 4 courses interjected with appropriate drinks between and during the meal. I would say i would leave there drunk every night, but I was usually so full from the meal that I couldn't move, let alone drive anywhere. Needless to say I am expecting a wonderful evening and I know that I and the 13 other guests there will enjoy it immensely.

Whatta weekend.

You know there was a time where two heartbreaking losses by my favorite football teams would put me at the top of the list at the suicide hotline. I survived this weekend's disasters by enjoying time with friends playing board games.

Up Next: Working on the Eckelmans Bathroom.

Your time has arrived...

A special congratulations to Nick and "Marcilee" Holmes. If you don't know already, Nick has landed a reoccuring role on the WB show "Gilmore Girls". Personally I have all but boycotted the WB since they canceled "Dawsons Creek" (it still makes me cry). But I know I will be watching tonight. Having Nick in it definitely gives them a leg up in my book.

Congratulations you guys. Just goes to show what hard work and patience can reward you with.

And you both are deserving.

Hello my Friends, Hello..

Its good to see ... ahh forget it..

Anyway I am back. Sorry the delay in posting, but its been a pretty hectic couple of months and I haven't like doing much of anything after 'Noises Off' closed. Lets get caught up.

1. I turned 31 this month.
2. I asked Tonya to marry me.

Well, when you put it in a list it doesn't look like much, and I am sure there are other things in there I should mention but I won't for lack of desire.

I must say that I was proud of my gift for that cast party this year. I drew Jim Johnson's name and for those of you that don't know him, let me give you the cliff notes version. He is very intelligent and he is not afraid to flaunt his superior intellect. But not only is he very smart, but he has a wonderful sense of humor and I knew he would truly appreciate my gift. Jim loves bluegrass music so I made him his own personal "themesong" if you will.

Here's the link (thanks to Saeanything for the hosting!)

pretty rough editing and playing for that matter. But I think it turned out okay for only a few hours of work. Let me know what you think!!

Tonight it all begins...

Besides Tivo-ing the Presidential debate, tonight will be a busy night as we have our first audience for 'Noises Off!' I am kind of anxious to get this thing rolling. Everyone has worked so hard on this show. I do have to give Seth and Alan some credit for finding time in their busy schedule to work as hard as they do on the technicals of this show.

Thanks Guys!!!

10 years later...

As I am sure most of you know, I will be turning 31 this sunday. This really isn't such a big deal, but I began to think about it and compared it to when I turned 21 (that would have been 10 years ago to those of you who are math challenged). It was from this that I have composed this little list.

Top 10 differences from my 21st birthday to my 31st.

10. 21 - Dollar big beers at Rusty's Last Chance Saloon in Aggieville
31 - Dollar off coupons for Metamucil at Wal-Mart

9. 21 - Hitting on high school chicks = fun time
31 - Hitting on high school chicks = jail time

8. 21 - Metallica and Aerosmith on the radio
31 - Boortz and O'reilly on the radio

7. 21 - great shape!
31 - pear shaped

6. 21 - Nikes
31 - Nikes (with support insoles)

5. 21 - Can't get that f*@#ing "The Sign" song from Ace of base out of my head
31 - 'I saw the sign. And it opened up my eyes. I saw the sign'

4. 21 - Partying like a Rock Star till 4 in the morning.
31 - Partying like a Rock Star in short, but furious bursts so as to not wear myself out. But
still end up passing out at 10:30

3. 21 - Gin & Juice
31 - Prune Juice

2. 21 - Hot chicks and cold beer
31 - Hot wings and cold, low carb beer

And the #1 difference

21 - All I wanted for my birthday was the new college football video game!
31 - ......Well, some things never change

How bad is it??

"B-Side" nugget

Artist: Ari Hest Song Title
When Everything Seems Wrong

When you come back to your senses
Your heart overcomes your pride
I'll be here with and open mind
Here to break your fall from misery
You expect me to love just like you
Even though you won't admit that
You sink your teeth into something
You figure it'll come biting back

But I am not made to tag along
When everything seems wrong
And I still can breath when you are gone
When everything seems wrong to you

I don’t know if we’d be better off
Living our own separate lives
Talking every once or twice
Whenever we need each other
I can’t picture another arm around you
Wonder how I would react
Would I scream and shout in anger,
Or would I maintain some tact?

But I am not made to tag along
When everything seems wrong
And I still can breath when you are gone
When everything seems wrong to you

You know that you’re my best friend
That kind of love will never run out
You know more about me than I know
Things I’d never dream of showing
But I can’t change the way I’m feeling
And I’m not asking for miles of room
Just a little time to fill my tank up
Before I run on back to you

But I am not made to tag along
When everything seems wrong
And I still can breath when you are gone
When everything seems wrong to you
When will you come back to your senses?

There's no place like home.

Just got back from a weekend trip to see my pal Matt in Manhattan. It was a ton of fun and much needed. I had to get out of town for a bit and Matt and Manhattan didn't disappoint. It has been way too long since I had been there and I am ready to start planning another trip back!

and oh by the way Matt- I better hear from you monday or someone is getting a call!

They're on to me...

My wonderful friend Seth gave me a CD of someone he met and watched perform in Florida by the name of Ari Hest. Seth told me that Mr. Hest reminded him of me. Separated at birth or not, I love the CD and would recommend it to everyone. It has a definite John Mayer feel with a sublte blues aftertaste. Its great listening.

My life has a restart button

The purpose of life is to fight maturity.
Dick Werthimer

I have no doubts, and incidentally would not argue the fact that I, as an almost 31 year old father of one, am a child at heart. I do the things I must to make my life livable, but I also have no qualms with my childlike tendencies. It makes me --- me. Some people take life too seriously, That whole "He who dies with the most toys wins" mentality is such a waste of the best years of your life. This is the time I am suppose to have fun, experience new things, listen and learn from others so that I can make my life what my life is suppose to become. Everyday my life changes a little. It has no predetermined destination nor does it spin wildy out of control. My life has a controlled spontaneity that allows me to know that when I wake up each morning I know where I am, but never know where I am headed.

It had to end.

The siege is over. I took a shower this morning.

Sunday, September 05, 2004

ZZZZzzzzzz

Don't you find these 3 day weekends relaxing? I don't think I have seen sunlight in 2 days and am not really planning on it for the 3rd. A refreshed and rejuvenated mind is only half the battle. Hell making it to the shower is enough of a chore as it is. It's a nice change of pace from the hectic work week and when you throw in a rehearsal schedule for the theater, well, these little hiatuses from the grind are nice.

Damn thieves...

Okay, so today I had my first run-in with online identity theft. Well not so much identity but some a-holes had gotten ahold of my checking account and tried to withdraw a modicum amount of money from my checking. Feareth not though, due to some clever financial management I ever so cleverly only had 97 cents in my account!!! HAHAHA suckers, so not only did they receive nothing there illegal action upon my light wallet is fairly current enough that something may happen thru the law. I guess this little company has done this quite a bit lately. All is well although I was alittle pissed about the whole thing. I had to basically change everything involved with my financial identity. And just to be on the safe side I changed my physical identity. You would think that the change might be a tedious process, but it was actually quite simple. I was even given the option of taking a previously issued identity that was no longer used. So ladies and gentleman....

Let's try this one shall we....

.....This one already has potential

So lets get it goin!!!!!

Sunday, August 01, 2004

Hello again.

Sorry for the delay in posts. It has been an extremely busy couple3 of months and I have taken some time off to recuperate from being at the show and work. But now I am well rested and ready to post again. I will start working on a new caption game in the next few days (that was fun wasn't it?) and hopefully can peruse my favorite quotes to keep your mind occupied.

I would like to say a few thanks to some people.

Seth - Thanks for being a great friend and a great roommate (who would have known??) Hope you have a fun and safe trip to Florida!!!!!!!

Mark - Thanks for the watch, the cards... above and beyond my friend and I appreciate it!

Tonya - Thanks for just being you. In my life that is an accomplishment that is hard to merit by words alone.

My new favorite quote machine....

Okay so I have found my new favorite quote machine. This one is especially important to me because I actually have a few quotes listed there. So here comes my first favorite quote.

"I love it when we play some big ampitheater or coliseum and I hit a really low note and shake 25,000 seats... That is power, baby. Makes me horny. So then I play in the nude. Cuz' you know... I'm horny. "
—Jay Dylan the Town Schrinky (WOS 12)

There are some very funny ones here and many of you will know the man behind the collection of quotes - Eric J Reid

See if you can guess which ones are mine - Although Eric I am still waiting to see my quotes from this weekend!!

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes....

We had our first "official" rehearsal in the new theater last night. I have to say I was extremely impressed with how it went. After directing a few shows I have experienced first hand how difficult it can be getting things accomplished with just a handful of people. But with such an enormous cast that this show has I was expecting nothing but problems when we got started. But it went pretty smooth. Don did an amazing job making sure everyone stay to the task at hand. Actually I am pretty impressed with everyone involved in the show so far. This is gonna be a lot of fun..

This explains a lot.

Weird dreams man....

Okay so last night I had this crazy dream. K-dogg and I were walking down the streets of Denver when this really severe storm brewed up. There were tornadoes everywhere. The only thing I could do was hit a ditch with him and use my body as a shield. There were so many things piling up on me, cars, boats, trash cans, buildings, cows. But there I was just like some sort of superhero. Once the storm passed I just brushed off the debris and Kolin and I walked into some sort of indoor funhouse for kids and had a blast. I woke up at that point and was so energized that I could not go back to sleep. When I finally did, I dreamt about big airplanes refueling alien space ships. Dreams are weird.....

The End of an Era

.....Goodbye dear friend.

Well we say goodbye to the XP today. What was purchased on a whim is now someone elses whimsical purchase. It is kind of sad to part with the aqua crotch rocket, but it was long due. I am not the free roaming spirit I use to be, and it seemed like such a hassle to make it to the lake on a regular basis. But it sure was fun having it. And there are a million great stories about it. Maybe someday I will replace it with something more "family" oriented.

*yawn*

Well, obstacle #1 (Singing the National Anthem) is over and I think it went well. The sad thing is that I couldn't even stay till the end of the game. Oh believe me I tried, but I was so exhausted and hit a brick wall sometime around the beginning of the 3rd quarter. I am not so sure its healthy for a 30 year old man to be in bed by 8 or 9:00 every night. Tonights sleeping excursion will probably be even earlier seeing as how I have be in Spearville at 5:30 a.m. tomorrow morning. ROCK AND ROLL BABY!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!! ZZZZZZZzzzzzzz

Go Legend!

Monday, May 17, 2004

Man, what a crazy week.

It's monday and I can already say that this week is going to be insane. Tomorrow night I am singing the National Anthem at the Legends USBL basketball game with 3 other compadres. It's kind of funny how not more than 15 years ago I always looked at singers as being selfish. There they stood all by themselves belting out tunes and soaking in the attention like they were Kings and Queens speaking to their loyal peasants. Now look at me. I can't get enough of it. It seems like I can't shake this singing gig, and its not like I have a great voice or anything. I think I went to the Jason Alexander school of singing; Act like you can do it. And in truth that is all it really is. If you have some sort of ability to carry a note you can pull it off. I remember back in college I was dared to enter a local radio stations kareoke contest. Luckily for me I knew 2 of the judges and got into the final round. I knew there was no way I was going to win it on talent alone, so I picked a song that I thought that the local crowd would get into. I chose Travis Tritt's T-R-O-U-B-L-E. I had never even sung it before but that night I was the man. Gyrating and playing up the crowd like no other. Long story short I won the Male division and got a free weekend trip to KC and some wonderful parting gifts. I abolutely know for a fact I wasn't the best singer there, but I guess my acting job fooled them into thinking I was.
Okay enough of that rant, back to the week at hand. We have a cabaret this weekend for which I am playing the drums, I have to squeeze in a meeting on thursday in Wichita for work, then perform Friday and Saturday at the Cabaret. I know it doesn't seem like much, but I really wonder sometimes why I subject myself to this kind of schedule. I guess its a labor of love really. Why else would I do it?

What the hell happened to me?

Have you ever been so caught up in your life that you don't even realize that the things you do are sending you down some spiraling cespool of regret and pain? Me neither... to me its just some test in life that I feel I must pass before I am fully happy. Its weird, but its my life, so I deal.

Sunday, May 16, 2004

Hey Look at me!

Well here it is. I have just joined the line. Seth and Mark, the head lemmings, have reserved a spot for me in line. So now I have to catch up. SO much to comment on but so many more things to get done before I start. So off to laundry I go!
